ROTASIA 2011 -An Unbelievable Spectacle   Leave a comment

13th-16th January 2011, Goa

For those who are not aware, Rotasia is the biggest event in the South-East Asia Rotaract calendar. It was the first time that 30 members of Rotaract Waknaghat (under R.I Distt. 3080) participated in this large youth international convention. This time Rotasia was held in the unmatched tourist destination of the country –GOA.

The whole programme was broadly divided into four segments –ceremonies, competitions, fun and learning. The event started on 13th January with the inaugural ceremony in ‘Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Academy’ Panjim, Goa (The main venue for rotasia 2011).District march was held after the inaugural function. Around 60 odd members from our district followed our DRR. Rtr. Neha Chopra in a queue with the banner of the district “3080” shouting slogans. DJ night was organized after the district parade. It was real fun. Everybody danced like crazy and had a ball. People from different countries had put on different dancing shoes. It was great fun to watch the Lankans going berserk and dancing like no one’s watching.

Cultural competitions (singing & dancing) and Mr. and Ms. Rotasia competition was also organized during the event. This was the event which made the distt. 3080 very proud as both the titles were bagged by our district. Rtr.  Tejasvi Harloyan Singh from Chandigarh won the Mr. Rotasia title and Rtr. Ayushi Agarwal, our very own Media Representative won the coveted Ms Rotasia title. A very well deserved win by the dedicated and hardworking rotaractors which made not only them but the whole district jump in joy. So proud was the district. It couldn’t have got any better !!!

Rotasia was a great mix of education and entertainment. It provided us an opportunity to listen and interact with eminent personalities such as Shri Digambar Kamat, Hon Chief Minister of Goa who gave the inaugural address. Also the session with Dr Bharat Chandra on the secrets of success and mind power was very inspiring. The rotaractors also spent a fun and frolic day visiting Goan churches, exotic sea beaches, enjoying Goan delicacies, Goan music, night clubs and adventurous sports and finally a splendid dance party by the Candolim beach follower by toothsome dinner.

On the last day one could still see people sitting in groups. But this time people from different countries were sitting in one group. An amazing view. The feeling of being one had arrived in Rotasia and before we could realize Rotasia 2011 had already achieved its purpose.

This rare opportunity fulfilled a rotaractor’s dream of ‘meeting’, ‘interacting’, ‘learning’, and ‘jingling’ with the rotractors of 38 rotaract district of South-east Asia making them the four most unforgettable days of one’s Rotaract life.

Looking forward to ROTASIA 2012 in Nepal!!!!!!

POLIO RAVIVAR – DO BOOND ZINDAGI KI   Leave a comment

Date: 27th Feb.2011

Time: 9a.m-4p.m

Venue: WaknaghatDispensary

Children remind us of innocence & childhood is truly the best period of a person’s life .But there are children who suffer, and lose their most wonderful period of life because of something which can be easily fought with i.e. POLIO. Rotaract Club Of Waknaghat took a great initiative  to reach out to every child, be it in the sparsely populated rural areas or in the densely populated urban areas ,around the campus of the college  to eradicate polio.

On the morning of 27th February, members  of Rotaract club of Waknaghat  were all set to leave for this cause and be a part of  “POLIO RAVIVAR”. As they reached the Waknaghat dispensary, where the polio campaign was going on by oral vaccination of children, they were briefed about the process and the schedule for the day. Members headed by Rotaractor Supriya (Secretary- Rotaract club of Waknaghat) along with the govt. officials headed to the Rayat Bahra University for the drive.  Small innocent children were playing in the premises of the university. Rotaract members did their best so that every child around could get the polio drops “DO BOOND ZINDAGI KI” .It was really moving to see that children being brought by their small brothers and sisters on their shoulders .They were given polio drops and their hand was marked so that it could be made sure that they have been given the drops. Some children resisted taking the drops but then the volunteers flattered them so it became easy to give them the dose. Volunteers also went to the slums to spread awareness about the importance of the polio drops, and various other vaccines which are necessary for a child and , which if not taken at proper time could lead to incurable diseases. Volunteers also gave information about a life insurance scheme provided by the govt. of Himachal Pradesh for the free treatment of the people below poverty line. They also asked people to educate their children for their better future. All the people were really overwhelmed and thanked all the volunteers for their support and knowledge. Around 40 children were given polio drops there. Back in dispensary Rotaractor Ekta (President-Rotaract club of Waknaghat) and Rotaractor Anu were managing the work. Many children from and around Waknaghat came with their parents for the dose. Children below 5 years of age were also weighed to see if they underweighted or not. The work for the day was successfully done.

The members came back to the college with a feeling of satisfaction and smiles on their faces. The members really enjoyed themselves throughout the day by doing their bit for the society and helping kids fight POLIO.

A very enriching experience indeed!!!

Mehandi Night   1 comment

Date: 26 th February, 2011

Time: 9pm-12midnight

Venue: Geeta Bhawan

The aroma of heena makes every girl feel splendid and its fragrance elegantly graces her hands with its inherent colour. So was the feelings of the  girls of JUIT when a Mehndi Night was organised for them by The Rotaract Club of Waknaghat. The Mehndi night was a great success . It was great fun to see the young ladies enthusiastically prepare theselves to get their hands adorned with heena. The hustle-bustle of the event was beyond any explanation.

The event started at 9pm when the super excited girls started getting themselves registered for the kind of mehndi they wanted. The tuck shop of Geeta Bhawan was decorated with balloons and posters. There was an atmosphere typically created for the delight of the girls. The concept of ‘Mehndi night’ itself gives an idea of what it was all about. As the aroma of heena complimented them, the rocking music enthralled the zestful mood of the young ladies.

A total of fifty entries were registered after which we were forced to close the registration counter as the demand of mehndi was increasing beyond our expectations. Every rotaractor was busy doing her work which added an immense sense of dedication towards the club which was thereby responsible for our euphoric enjoyment. The confusions at the registration desk, the tasteful experience in the so called ‘single-room-kitchen’, the overwhelmingly joyous and ethnic dance added a tinge of zeal in every rotaractor. The festivity of the night added exuberance on the face of every girl.

The night of 26th of February came alive when our warden Maala ma’am graced it with her joyous presence. The tap of the palm complimented the rhythm of the dholak. This made the girls rejoice and break into joyful songs like ‘khud ko kya samjhti hai…’, ‘mehndi lagake rakhna…’ and many more. By the time it was 12am, we started wrapping up the things to mark an end to the successful Mehndi Night. Not only did the event give a chance to the young artists to showcase their talents in an attractive fashion but also gave an opportunity to the young ladies to feel the bliss of the fragrance of heena. It was because of the efforts of all the members of the Rotaract Club that the event was not only a successful one but was marked with great enthusiasm as well.

ROTARACT DISTRICT CONFERENCE 2011   Leave a comment

20th February 2011,                   PEC, Chandigarh

Eighteen members of Rotaract Waknaghat attended the annual district conference of district no. 3080 held at PEC, Chandigarh on 20th Feb’11,  Sunday. It was an enriching experience for all rotaractors as they got the opportunity to interact with each other. Also voting for the new DRR. was done and Rotaractor Gagan Sareen, president, Rotaract Club Roorkee was selected as our new DRR for 2011-2012. The distinguished guests included     DG Rtn. Madhukar Malhotra , DRCC Rtn. Ajay Madan and DRR Rtr. Neha Chopra and others. The DG urged the rotaractors to take up the project of eradicating polio completly from our country. All rotaractors pledged to spread polio awareness among citizens and make sure that the government is working honestly towards this goal. In the conference, documentaries of various clubs were shown and the documentary of Rotaract Waknaghat was especially appreciated by the distinguished guests. Drugs enter the lives of the youth very easily and form a grip over it and ruining it. It is very important to get hold of our lives and stay away from these. To depict this very idea, Rotaract Waknaghat presented a play about the students of an engineering college who have their own little experience with drugs. It was scripted keeping in mind the youth of today so that the audience could easily identify with it. The club also won an award for the maximum number of entries in Rotasia 2011. Rtr. Ayushi Aggarwal was felicitated for being crowned as    Miss. Rotasia 2011 held at Goa in January. In all, the day was quite eventful and full of fun as along with the conference, we enjoyed our day at Chandigarh.

DATE : 26TH JAN, 2011

TIME : 5 TO 7pm

VENUE : Open Cafe, JUIT Waknaghat

26th Jan 2011, the whole India geared up to celebrate its 62nd republic day..so we thought why should our college lag behind.

We rotaractors decided to do some patriotic, funfilled event to rejuvenate the spirit of “Hindustani” among the university students. The club decided to organise a fun filled event called ‘Chak De India’…It included an India quiz, an India hunt which involved diving the whole campus into various Indian cities and then performing various tasks related to Indian culture like shouting  ‘JAI HIND’  loudly,etc..The last event was a patriotic antakashri…which really raised and moved the spirit of juitians… The best thing of this event was that everything was very India inspired…Like the names of the teams of antakashri…They were named ‘uttar’,’dakshin’,’poorav’, ‘pashim’…The Hindi names of the 4 directions ..Also the campus was divided into 3 main cities of India… We designated Vivekananda statue area as ‘Srinagar’…Basketball area as ‘Mumbai’…and dhyan kaksh as ‘Delhi’…with every city there was a task associated…participants as well as the ‘rotaractors’ thoroughly enjoyed this event…and the main motive of reviving patriotic sentiments and enthusiasm among juitians was achieved..Also posters reminding us of the great revolutionary leaders like Swami Vivekananda and Subash Chandra Bose were put up in the open cafe…the success of the event could be seen with a huge crowd which participated…but for us rotaractors the main success lied in making the whole college realise the importance of Indian culture, the wonderful work done by our leaders and last but not the least the various achievements of  our nation.

It all ended up on the high notes of  ‘JAI HIND’,’SAARE JAHAN SE ACHA HINDUSTAN HAMARA’ and ‘BHARAT MATA KI JAI’.. A total celebration indeed…! 🙂

Weekly Dose   Leave a comment

Weekly dose is a letter box placed on way to Annapurna(mess), Jaypee University of information technology, by Rotaract club, Waknaghat.its similar to a common letter box, with red body and black cap. But unlike any other letter box, it had two letter hole one for the ‘person of the week’ and the other for ‘thought of the week’.

Every week a quote by famous people or some famous sayings were put up in “thought of the week” column. It stated the famous sayings and phrases that applied to daily lives of the people. As the letter box was on the way to mess, we expected most of the people to read it and hoped some of them would apply it to their lives and it would help us make a better society.

The letter hole for “person of the week” contained a paragraph about one of the famous people who brought about the change any sphere of life, or had any extraordinary achievement like Sachin Tendulkar. It was put up to encourage the youth, and also to make them aware of the great achievers of the world so that they can choose a correct role model.

When something is told again and again it surely leaves a mark. This phrase was the backbone of the idea of putting up the letter box near the mess. As people cross the mess area at least three times a day for meals, they might end up reading the thoughts put up there and it surely would leave a mark.

Celebrating Children’s Day: Celebrating Life!!   Leave a comment

DATE : 14th November 2010

 TIME : 10am-1pm

VENUE: School near the Mandir, JUIT Waknaghat

Children are God’s gift! And childhood is all about innocence and liveliness. It is about happiness and freedom- The celebration of Life!!

We very often worry about what a child will become tomorrow and forget that he is someone today. On the very special occasion of Children’s Day, to celebrate the very special present of childhood and to pay homage to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru for his lifelong passion for the development of children & young people, the Rotaract Club of Waknaghat organized fun-filled learning events for the children of the school near the mandir.

The celebration started off by telling these kids about Chacha Nehru who is also regarded as the country’s very special child as he was amongst those who had struggled for independence and had the opportunity to be India’s first Prime Minister of our great nation India. Though unaware of most of the things, the lads were enthusiastic to learn and to retell the facts told to them. Such quick learners!! That marked just the beginning of the celebration.

Children were also encouraged to take part in elocution competition, dance competition, solo acting competition, drawing competition etc. Such competitions help to enhance a child’s skills and talent. Unlike the normal competitions, all children received balloons and a selected few white topis.

At the end sweets were distributed to the kids. The ambience was so energetic & refreshing that everyone forgot about their age gap and danced, sang, played with these kids and all that could be felt around was happiness, love and laughter. Truly these kids showed us the seven million wonders of this life through their innocent eyes.
