“Whenever you fall down, you have two options: To get up and fight back or to run away.”
What if this fall meant lifetime suffering and a drift from the normalcy of life?! Dizen with luxuries we forget the gifts God has endowed upon us.
This brief visit to the Dhali School for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind children made a digging impact into our hearts and brains. Most of us would perhaps lose all hope and adapt to the darks of our lives instead if, God forbid, we are physically impaired in any sense. What if you were born with it or else faced it at an early age??
These children answer the question and push the shadows away with confidence, perseverance and enlightenment.
Two of the students of the Deaf and Dumb School are even headed to Chandigarh for their higher studies this winter. An alumnus of the school is a well established government official and the teachers take great pride in him and the other alumni who are settled well off.
Your adorned masks cannot fake these clever little fellows. The children at the blind school seemed to be able to see more than us. Their sixth sense and positive attitude toward life make one wince.
We, Rotaractors , played games i.e. cricket and fire in the mountain with the children and had great fun. We danced along, heard their melodious voices stringing the pearls of words into our ears and even exchanged phone numbers. Adorned by the fir trees the sky brought together strangers and entangled them into a lifelong friendship.
Parting these new friends was hard. Everyone looked up one last time with a broad smile and the hearts saluting the enthusiasm of the young ones while moving down the dusty rocky path edged with beautiful yellow flowers.
The amazing part is that none of us pity these children. Instead, we feel proud of them and pity ourselves to be lacking the kind of vividness. We were honored to be a part of their lives although (to our dismay) just for a few hours…….

Ayushi Agrawal

One of the topics gripping our society these days is the concept of live-in relationship. To get the answers to the endless questions associated with this topic in our own way, an open group discussion was organized by the literary committee of the Rotaract Club.
A good number of 30 students enthusiastically participated in the discussion. The event kicked off with discussion the pros and cons of marriage and live-in relationship and later shifted toward the legal aspect of this relationship covering issues such as legitimacy of the child born and status and rights of women. Most of the people openly accepted this walk-in walk-out relationship but under the definition of certain regulations. At the end everyone reiterated the fact that every relation thrives on the grounds of respect and mutual understanding , be it marriage or live-in relationship.

VANDE MATARAM!!
This year’s independence day turned out to be a special one for everyone with a chance to celebrate it with the school children..
Charged with the patriotic spirit the day was celebrated with great fervour transforming the environ to a virtual fiesta..
The celebration started with the kids singing the national song in unison , the flag being unfurled followed by the national anthem. The atmosphere seemed to be so charged with a true sense of patriotism that one could recall all that went into fetching us this hard earned independence.
The gleaming faces of the kids, all just too excited witnessing all the fanfare around ,the twinkle in their eye– made the efforts worth while!!
The small cultural function that was organised by the children who were taught by the rotaractors during weekend classes seemed to make their mothers so proud of them.
Be it the singing of patriotic songs that gave stiff competition a trained choir or the soulful rendition of a few poetic lines on our independence heroes including Mahatma Gandhi and Rani Lakshmi Bai , they stole the show!! The dance performance given by one of them gathered an unending round of applause from one and all.
This was followed by a gift distribution to the children as a token of appreciation of their hard work and an incentive to inspire them to take part in co-curricular activities!! Then began the unending fun in which all danced their way to a number of peppy Bollywood numbers and the inner child in each one of us was let lose to enjoy among that little bunch of innocent angels!!
The day ended teaching us a lesson-“To protect and never misuse this hard earned treasure that we call independence”.
“I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.”
These words by Madonna summarise it all.
This independence day we aimed to be able to inspire the kids to dream and to achieve , to let them know that they too have freedom of expression as an inherent right, to give them an impetus to take on the world and face it with full valour and courage and end up being a winner;defying all odds!!
Jai hind !!
Jai Bharat!!

Aparna Gautam

INSURANCE COMPANY : Bharti AXA Life Insurance
Rotaract Waknaghat organised its first event outside the premises of JUIT on the second week of August. A team of 3 members from Bharti AXA LI, Delhi addressed the people of Shoghi and Waknaghat. Various advantages and the need for insurance were justified. Different insurance plans (like pension plans, etc) were explained to the interested crowd.
It was a learning experience for all the members.

The interactive session with Rtr Sanjeev Anand started with a brief welcome speech by the president Rtr Ekta Manglesh.
A handmade bouquet was presented to the guests by Rtr Supriya Saurabh(Secretary) and Rtr Shivali Soni(Creative Head).
The main aim of this session was to help the members gain insight about the global impact of the work they shall be doing for the club. The gathering was addressed by Rtr Sanjeev Anand who told the students of the various benefits of joining Rotaract. He presented the opportunity of studying at Oxford University and Harvard University on scholarships. Hoping to see the members come up with innovative ideas and execute them.
Welcome aboard everyone! Lets have fun and work hard to take this club to new heights.

VENUE: School (under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) near mandir,JUIT
ROTARIANS PRESENT : Surabhi, Shweta and Prayas
“Friends are the most important ingredient in this recipe of life.”
Oooooommmmm!! ॐ!! The entire school resounded with the mystical and sacred syllable as all the students performed the kriya. The sacred incantation intoned at the beginning of the interactive session by the children added serenity and peace to the environment.
Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries including India. It being the “Friendship Day “, the children were told all about making and keeping friends. They were told how each year, friends spend time together on this day and express their love. Following the tradition of exchanging friendship day gifts, the little jewels drew out beautiful sketches on cards for their friends.
The members also played various games with the young ones. It was a remarkably amazing friendship day for the children as well as the members.
Regards,
Ayushi
On 1st Aug, 2010, 30 rotarians took part in a Tree Plantation drive at Jhakhu Temple organized by Rotary Shimla. The volunteers from Rotaract Waknaghat planted around 150 Deodar saplings.
With high energies and enthusiastic spirits , the rotarians worked with full dedication and devotion. This was visible from the fact that even though it was raining continuously, the rotarians managed to plant 150 trees in 2 hours.
In this way, celebrating friendship’s day with nature was a wonderful experience. The whole trip was an amazing learning experience. We had lots of fun. Looking forward to undertake similar kinds of interesting projects.
Regards,
Purvika
